Flowers Fade but Photos Live Forever!

Something to think about -: When you compare photographers and their services, try to find one who'll give you the broadest and most cost effective access to your images. Some studios or shooters may initially sound ideal, but you'll really start paying when you begin ordering prints.

This could significantly inflate your expected costs, and you may only end up ordering a fraction of the photos you've seen online - photos of relatives and others may be lost forever. Hints for Finding Your Photographer

Experienced wedding photographers charge more than your uncle or your friend because they know what's involved and they take precautions on your wedding day, carrying extra gear: camera bodies, lenses and flashes. Most are also able to bring a portable studio in case you need or want to shoot indoors. Professional photographers bring lights and umbrellas - amateurs use the camera mounted flash. They give very different results!

1. Ask family, friends and recent newlyweds for recommendations, and ask to see their wedding albums. If you find a style you like, contact the photographer and set up an interview.

2. Request to see a complete coverage of the photographer's work - that is, ask for a picture or online portfolio of an entire wedding for which he or she was hired. Many wedding photographers hire an assistant who is also a photographer - keep this in mind as you'll be viewing the works of two professionals shooting the same wedding - the price paid will be greater than for a single photographer.

3. Choose an overall photographic style that suits you, whether photojournalistic, candid, formal posed portraits, artsy with added dramatic flourishes, color, or black-and-white for a romantic, classy look - or select a blend of a number of styles. Which can the prospective photographer deliver?

4. Consider the photographer's personality. Decide if you share a vision and will get along well. Remember, the photographer will be your shadow before and during the event.

5. Check prices, including those of packages offered and numbers of prints included. Remember, it may be worth it to invest in a good photographer if it means that the memories of the day will be captured perfectly or near-perfectly.

6. Schedule a follow-up meeting to determine the specifics - the shots you want and don't want, the shooting schedule on the day of the wedding, and organizing a "shot list" to make sure you don't leave out those other important people.

Make sure you find out how you'll gain access to your images. Does your photographer sell you prints from an online website or can you buy the digital images and make your own prints? Does your photographer retouch your images for you? Is there extra cost involved?
